Anime Review: The World God Only Knows

This anime is wacky, in a pretty awesome kind of way. The premise of the show is this: a gamer kid named Keima who is completely obsessed with visual novels is one day introduced to an angel/devil thing named Elsie. She explains to him there are thousands of "lost souls" out there and that he needs to help her find them and set them free for some reason or another. To do this, he must find the girl possessed by the lost spirit and make her fall in love, the spirit only being released once they kiss.

From the plot it may sound slightly generic, but the heart and soul of anime is within Keima's genius ability to make virtually any girl he wants fall in love with him brought on by his extensive past as a dating-sim video game player. This leads to all sorts of crazy situations and some very laughable dialogue. As the series goes on, you find out just how much of a genius Keima Katsuragi really is.

That being said, the story is, while slightly generic, definitely entertaining enough to keep you watching. The jokes are funny, the characters are interesting, and the pacing is done almost perfectly. The animation and music are pretty good too, and while there aren't really too many memorable tracks, there's certainly enough *umph* to the show to get you wrapped up in the moment. I give "The World God Only Knows" an 8/10. (this is a rating on both of the two seasons out btw, they're pretty much the same as far as quality goes.)
