Elevator: Source

Elevator: Source is an add-on for Half-Life 2 mod Garry's Mod. It is the best user-created add-on content I have seen in ages. You have to have a good sense of humor for it though. Also it's definitely more fun if you try it with someone, be it online or locally. So anyway, if you have gmod, and HL2 Ep2, go here and download it: http://www.pixeltailgames.com/elevator/

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 13

Day 13: Comic

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This is actually a remake of a sprite comic I made a looooong time ago. It may not be the funniest joke ever, but eh, whatever. Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT are all owned by Funimation, Toei Animation, Fuji TV, and Akira Toriyama. Please support the official release. ^^

How to make Sandvich

I'm not really into the whole TF2 fad, but this video is very well animated, and it's entertaining.

Anime Review: Shinryaku! Ika Musume

Shinryaku! Ika Musume, or "Invade! Squid Girl" is a comedy anime about a girl who claims to be a squid who has ventured on to land in order to invade, seeking revenge for all of the misdeeds done to her beloved ocean. Ika Musume is another wacky anime, and as such, can be a little obnoxious at times. You definitely have to be in the right mind set for this show. However, it's also funny, fairly well animated, and at times pretty darn adorable.

In the first few episodes you are introduced to most of the main characters, with more being introduced later on in the series. They each have their own character traits that are beaten to death as the show continues. There's the generic tomboyish-character, the school-friend, the shota, the seemingly-innocent-but-really-yandere character, the lesbian, the obnoxious American stereotypes, the ripped surfer guy, the shy-beyond-all-belief girl, the list goes on...

With each episode divided into three parts, this anime is great for people with small attention spans such as myself. The soundtrack isn't very memorable, aside from maybe the catchy opening theme to the first season, but the rest of the show makes up for it. It's a pretty solid anime for its type. I give Shinryaku! Ika Musume a 7/10 ~de geso.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 12

Day 12: Most Recent Accomplishment

I recently reached 5,000 page impressions on Adsense for my blog, so here's a picture of me blogging. Coincidentally, this is also my 100th blog post, so yeah, that's cool too.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 11

Day 11: Turning Point in My Life

Getting my license was definitely a huge turning point in my life. I actually started going places and doing things, without Mom and Dad. I was thinking about picking something else for Day 11, like one of my moves, but I couldn't really think of what to draw for those, so I just went with my car.

Bye bye, Megaupload

I know I'm a little late, but file sharing site Megaupload was taken down by the US Government yesterday. SOPA hasn't even passed and they're taking down sites. And it's not even a US site - Megaupload originated in Hong Kong. How long will it be before sites like Rapidshare, Mediafire, and the like are taken down is well? Mediafire has already dramatically pumped up its rule enforcement and has been taking down file after file since Megaupload's shut down. Ugh, government... I think we need separation of internet and state.

Mini Movie Review: Office Space

I'm sure this movie has been reviewed to death by now, but I just watched it recently for the first time, so eh, what the heck. Office Space is about an office. It is not about space. Cubicle worker Peter Gibbons is pissed off about everything, but mostly his job. After visiting a hypnotist with his girlfriend, Peter decides to just stop caring about everything. He stops going to work, and does pretty much whatever he wants not worrying about the consequences. In doing this, he somehow manages to get a promotion, the girl of his dreams, and basically the life he's always wanted.

Without giving away too much more, lemme just say this was a great movie. Funny jokes, good acting, all the dialogue was spot-on. The story advanced very well at an excellent pace and will easily keep you enthralled. The only thing holding me back from giving this movie a near perfect score is that there wasn't really anything wow-worthy in it. Sure, everything was done well, and it was a great movie, but I just can't give it a score equal to classic masterpieces when there wasn't anything particularly spectacular about it. So in the end, I give Office Space an 8/10.

Movie Review: The Ramen Girl

Itadakimasu! Isn't it common in to say this before eating in Japan? Not in this movie. "The Ramen Girl" is an independent film about a stereotypical American girl named Abby who goes to Japan with her boyfriend and is then left stranded there after he decides he doesn't want to put up with her any more. I don't blame him. This chick is annoying. But I digress, after being left all alone in the middle of Tokyo, Abby, in tears, visits a closed ramen shop in hopes of finding someone to rant off to. There she finds a cranky old ramen chief and his wife. They serve her a bowl of ramen to try and make her go away, but it just makes her want to stick around more.

The next day, Abby returns to the ramen shop and sees how happy the ramen makes everyone. Also there's some strange symbolism involving a digitally manipulated cat statue. That part made no sense. But anyway, Abby then decides she wants to learn to make ramen from the shop owner, and she won't take no for an answer. The rest of the movie is student abuse and drama.

Apparently this movie was supposed to be a comedy, but there weren't really too many funny parts. It was mostly drama. And ramen. And cleaning. Lots and lots of cleaning. So yeah, while this movie did manage to keep my interest, that's about all it managed to do. The actor performance was decent from everyone except the female lead. Maybe she was meant to sound like a bumbling idiot who can hardly string together her thoughts into complete sentences, but for the most part the performance just comes off as poor. I did, however, like the badass ramen cheif's performance - even if he was a total dick. I give the Ramen Girl a 5/10.

Oh, also there was a part where eating ramen made them very sad. That was funny.

Winter 2012 Anime

So for those of you that are up to date with currently airing anime (which probably isn't many of you), what are you watching or planning on watching? Here's the list.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Here are my impressions on some of the anime...

Another - Looks pretty cool. Might check it out if it gets good reviews.

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys - Aka Nichijou: Boys Version. I can't wait for this one. Here's hoping it will be just as good as Nichijou, although that's going to be awfully hard to accomplish.

High School DxD - Generic fanservicey crap. Keep in mind this is just my take on what these anime look like. DxD might turn out to be a masterpiece for all I know.

Kill Me Baby - Every season there's one of these loli comedy anime, and every season I try them out. They're usually very hit and miss though. Will this one get it right? We shall see...

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! - See above.

Mouretsu Pirates - I do like pirates, but I'm not particularly into the whole sci-fi thing...

Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki - This looks like it might be entertaining, but slightly simplistic even for my tastes.

Recorder to Randoseru
- This looks like my kinda anime. A silly pairing in a seinen anime with high quality animation. Too bad the episodes are only 3 minutes long.

Zero no Tsukaima F - UGH LOUISE IS SUCH A BITCH FFFFFFFFFF-

Amagami SS+ Plus - The first season of this was great, so I'm definitely going to check this one out.

So there you have it. Happy watching.

From the first season of Amagami

Anime Review: Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

The English name for this anime is "I Don't Have Many Friends," but this statement really contradicts the rest of the anime. In the first episode you're introduced to two people who don't have any friends. They then meet each other. They start a club. They then meet more people. Now they both have friends. So much for a story. The rest of the anime after the main cast is introduced within the first few episodes is about the group going out and doing your average Japanese high school student activities. These include the obligatory beach and festival episodes.

Now that I've summed up the anime, let's get to the actual review. For something so generic sounding, it actually manages to pull it off pretty well. What little story the anime has is not bad, but the meat of this anime is in its jokes, and most of them are pretty good. Also the fanservice. There's quite a bit of that.

The music is fitting, the animation's great, overall the anime is pretty entertaining. This is starting to sound a lot like my last review... While there's nothing that particularly stands out about "I Don't Have Many Friends" over other anime, it does a great job of keeping you interested, and should even have you laughing a couple times per episode. I was especially fond of the Monster Hunter and other video game themed episodes near the beginning of the series. I give Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai an 8/10.

30 Day Drawing Challenge: Day 9

Day 9: Favorite TV Show

These are three of the main characters from my favorite anime, Fullmetal Alchemist. It used to air on Adult Swim here in the States, and I believe it's successor, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is still being shown on the same network.

Anime Review: The World God Only Knows

This anime is wacky, in a pretty awesome kind of way. The premise of the show is this: a gamer kid named Keima who is completely obsessed with visual novels is one day introduced to an angel/devil thing named Elsie. She explains to him there are thousands of "lost souls" out there and that he needs to help her find them and set them free for some reason or another. To do this, he must find the girl possessed by the lost spirit and make her fall in love, the spirit only being released once they kiss.

From the plot it may sound slightly generic, but the heart and soul of anime is within Keima's genius ability to make virtually any girl he wants fall in love with him brought on by his extensive past as a dating-sim video game player. This leads to all sorts of crazy situations and some very laughable dialogue. As the series goes on, you find out just how much of a genius Keima Katsuragi really is.

That being said, the story is, while slightly generic, definitely entertaining enough to keep you watching. The jokes are funny, the characters are interesting, and the pacing is done almost perfectly. The animation and music are pretty good too, and while there aren't really too many memorable tracks, there's certainly enough *umph* to the show to get you wrapped up in the moment. I give "The World God Only Knows" an 8/10. (this is a rating on both of the two seasons out btw, they're pretty much the same as far as quality goes.)

Huh... Didn't see that one coming.

A few things...

Remember that From Dust game I posted about on here a few months ago? Probably not. That's why I've added a search feature to the blog~ It's on the right hand side right under the Google Ads... But I digress, that game was definitely not as good as I thought it would be. I deleted it off my hard drive before I could even finish it. So yeah, I'm not gonna bother writing a review on it...

Anywho, Katawa Shoujo it out now, so I'm playing that tonight. Good so far. I can never seem to finish Visual Novels though. They're just sooooo long. And I don't have anyone to talk with them about. :( So I'm not sure I'll ever get around to finishing this... but whatever.

As for my next blog post... it will probably be a review on the anime "The World God Only Knows" since I finished the second season of that recently. So yeah, you can look forward to that...

Happy New Year Everyone

Man, I've been late on all the holidays lately. Anyway, hope everyone had a good 2011, -insert generic hopes of good fortune for 2012 here-. Anyone have any new years resolutions? I'd like to start eating a little better... just a little.
These things are addicting...

Also I'd like to start making some darn money from this blog. Still haven't gotten my first payment from Google Adsense :/... So how was everyone's new year's eve? I rang in the new year with some Super Smash Bros Brawl and this really weird movie called "Beastly". Such a generic teen-romance about angsty high schoolers... Except instead of vampires, this one had a curse that makes you ugly. (This was loosely based off of Beauty and the Beast btw). So yeah. Fun stuff.
